1.  WHEN temptation around me roll 

     And eartth care me encompass 

     When appear the foe, friend to be 

     Destruction ploy to o’er me roll.

Chorus: O Saviour Lord, me, bid to come

              As Thou in Eden, Adam called 

              Where art thou sinner sound 

              the voice 

              That I may from the foul be free.


2.  When Satan craft’ly me deceive 

     Me to earthly pinacle raise

     Me entreated, him to worship 

     That earthly stock, I may possess.

3.  When earthly lusts me now ensnare 

     Thy commands me all to ignore 

     Upon my wand’ring heart impressed 

     In vain assurance “All is well”.

4.  When all hope and confidence 

     Not in living God now repose 

     Vain incantations now my trust 

     And lusty spells my song at dawn.
