1.  NEARER, my God to Thee 

     Nearer to thee,

     Even though it be a cross

     That raiseth me

     Still all my song shall be 

     Nearer my God to Thee 

     Nearer to thee.


2.  Though night steal over me 

     My rest a stone

     As o’er the Patriarch 

     Weary and lone

     Yet in my dreams I’d be 

     Nearer my God to thee 

     Nearer to thee.


3.  There let the way appear 

     Steps unto heaven

     All that thou sendest me 

     In mercy given

     Angels to beacon me 

     Nearer my God to thee 

     Nearer to thee.


4.  Then, all my waking thoughts 

     Bright with Thy praise,

     Out of the stony rock

     Bethel I’ll raise

     So by my woe to be 

     Dearer, my God to thee 

     Nearer to thee.


5.  Till in my Father’s House 

     Perfectly blest

     After my journeying 

     Safe and at rest

     All my delights shall be 

     Ever, my God, with Thee
